OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK...THE WHOLE STROY IN ITSELF WAS AMAZING AND IM NOT SAYING THAT BECAUSE THE AUTHOR IS A FAMILY MEMBER )IT WAS A FEW MISSING PUNCTUATIONAL ERRORS HERE AND THERE BUT OVERALL THE STORY KEPT MY ATTENTION FROM BEGINNING TO END. I CRIED LIKE A BIG BABY DURING PARTS OF THE BOOK...EACH CHARACTERS STORY TOUCHED ME AND MADE ME REALIZE HOW EVERYONE STRUGGLE IN LIFE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!

One word AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you haven't purchased this book you need to buy it. I couldn't put it down. I was at work thinking about this book wishing time would hurry up so I can go home and read it. LOL. Its just that good. You would have never thought this was your first published book just by reading it. From beginning to end I was captivated. I felt alot of different emotions from reading this book. It reminded me of our childhood growing up. I love how you brought it from the past to the present. The story line was excellent and so clear that I could picture everything in my head while I was reading it. I LOVE THIS BOOK. I can't wait for The next book and the next book and the next book ............ Greater is here. This is your season and your year. I am so proud of you love you

Set in the 1990's, three urban kids have to make choices no child their age should have to. The choices they decide upon and the people they choose to influence them will determine the path they each take to escape their troubled lives.
Khadija Grant has created characters who are very real and relatable and tells their story with an empathetic sensitivity that draws the reader deeper into their difficult lives and exposes the hope and goodness that lies at the heart of every one of us.
This book was so amazing. I'm not joking when i say this but I couldn't put it down once I started reading. It's 300am and im still up because i couldn't put this book down. I loved every thing about this book. I'm not gonna lie to you. You had me scared for a minute at the end. I thought David had died but I'm glad he made it. This is a must read and i will recommend this book to friends.
This story grabs you from the start and doesn't let go. I love the way Khadjia Grant pieces together several lives, it's easy, but also heartbreaking, to see what's influencing them. Their paths twist and they make decisions in their lives that are unexpected but realistic. That's one of the best parts of this story, it is realistic in it's portrayal. There are many hard to swallow parts, but the struggle is real and I love that it's not glorified, but at the same time you can see how some with limited means would turn down the wrong roads.
This story is unique and I highly recommend it. If I would compare it to one thing, it would be The Wire (from the angle of the school boys). A great debut novel.
This is an excellent book to revisit again and again. The audience is transported into a world that is either all too familiar, or one to learn more about, especially in the times we are living in as our country continues to struggle with inequalities and race. The characters are real and raw. The book is a page turner and keeps you wanting more.
I think everybody can either recognize themselves or at least someone they know/knew in Khadija Grant's The Influenced. Three vulnerable, and marginalized children grow up sharing the same dreams, but their surroundings are not helping the cause... Will the passion for love, hope and life move them forward?
Khadija Grant is an amazing writer. Her characterization is on point, and her descriptions are vivid! There were times in the book (during heartbreaking scenes) where I had to close my eyes and take a moment to compose myself. No joke! Also, her opening is one of the BEST I have ever come across! I have read some other works by Khadija, and I am awestruck at what a versatile writer she is. You will not be disappointed!
